Burna Boy’s African Giant: An Intricate Album Review By Vien.

An intricate album review by the Sassy Classy Bond Lady, Vien007.

This is it! The revelation has been revealed, and the revolution televised. We all saw the rise of this magnificent sound from truly an African giant.

This album is a fusion of R&B, Rap, Reggae, Funk, and Afrobeat that allows the singer, Burna Boy to flaunt his techniques of music he grew up on, like music from Fela, King Sunny Ade, DMX, Beenie man, Lagbaja or Bob Marley.

Burna Boy’s sound could easily be related to that of the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, cos it’s sweet, melodious, got a great rhythm, a little bit of storytelling, and an atom of truth to every track. Some have said it’s because of his mother’s influence on him, some say it’s in his childhood, some say it’s because his grandfather was the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s manager, many say perhaps as a child lurking in the hallway of the Africa shrine (that did play it’s part as well), but I say, fuck what you say! Burnaboy’s fame was predestined and it took only but a moment to be revealed.

This is the closest we’ve ever been to having that “Fela Afrobeat vibe“, especially where Burna Boy lyrically fused political and social commentary on the 4minutes 15seconds track, at no.10 off the African giant album titled, “Another Story” featuring Manifest.

This track is one track that has had many Nigerians have a rethink about our history as we know it, but listening to this 19 track album is as good as you have a one on one with Burnaboy pouring out his heart to you.

African Giant, the Nigerian singer born Damini Ogulu has delivered an electric and passion-fueled statement through an album that lives up to the towering persona.

While there are a diverse list of guest stars, from Damian Marley, to Nigeria’s Zlatan & a few scattered appearances of American artists like Future, YG, and Jorja Smith on African Giant, which were really unnecessary as a matter of fact, because Burna Boy can hold it on his own but this was more of a direct message to Africa, “An American artist can come to Africa and rap his English rap with his slangs that we don’t even get, but we say it, so it’s time to flip the script and have people from other parts of the world learn our flow.” And indeed, it’s happening!

Here are three (3) times Burna Boy reminded us that he is an African Giant. Remember earlier in the year he was billed to perform at Coachella and his name was in small fonts, Burna Boy made it clear, he is an African giant, at the 2019 BET Awards, he made it clear again that he is an African Giant by snagging the award for the best international act which his mum received and left a lasting remark, a message from Burna Boy that says; We are Africans before we were anything else, and now, with this album, it is official! Burnaboy is “Truly” an AFRICAN GIANT!!! AND INDEED THE TITTLE BEFITS HIM WELL! (NO SMALL FONTS, ALL CAPS)
